What are Email Headers?
Email headers contain metadata about an email message, including routing information,
timestamps, authentication results, and sender/recipient details. They're usually hidden
from view but can be accessed through your email client.
- Gmail: Open email → Three dots → "Show original"
- Outlook: Open email → File → Properties → Internet headers
- Apple Mail: View → Message → All Headers
What to Look For:
Check that SPF, DKIM, and DMARC all pass. Large delays between hops may indicate delivery
issues. Suspicious "From" addresses or unusual routing paths may indicate spoofing attempts.
